The Department of Clinical and Health Information Sciences has six programs: Advanced Medical Imaging TechnologyHealth Informatics (online), Health Information Management (online), Medical Laboratory Science, and Respiratory Therapy (online).  

Advanced Medical Imaging Technology

Advanced Medical Imaging Technology involves creating high quality, diagnostic medical images in a variety of health care settings. Professionals in this field combine their knowledge of physiology, pathology, medical imaging principles, and interpersonal skills to operate sophisticated imaging equipment while placing patients at ease. Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Technology are the two tracks that are offered. If you complete the Bachelor of Science Degree, you will have completed two imaging tracks. Degree offered: Bachelor of Science 

Health Informatics

The online Master of Health Informatics (MHI) is a direct response by the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) to changes in the health care industry and the growing demand for skilled health informatics professionals. UC MHI graduates are well prepared to improve patient care, quality, efficiency, safety and population health through the use of information technology and systems. This advanced and engaging program was designed in conjunction with the College of Business to create true, well-rounded leaders in the field of health information technology. Degree offered: Master of Health Informatics - Online

Health Information Management

Health Information Managers are experts in managing patient health information, administering computer information systems, collecting and analyzing patient data, and using classification systems and medical terminologies. Health Information Managers provide a critical link between care providers, payers, and patients. The distance learning Health Information Management Bachelor of Science degree is designed for working professionals who want to advance their careers from Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and become equipped with the knowledge to take the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification exam. Career opportunities for RHIAs exist in multiple settings throughout the healthcare industry, including consulting companies, IT vendors, hospitals, multispecialty clinics, physician practices, long-term care, mental health, and other ambulatory care settings. Degree offered: Bachelor of Science - Online

Medical Laboratory Science

Apply your interest in scientific activities and analyses to Medical Laboratory Science and impact people’s lives and health by performing diagnostic procedures in clinical chemistry, microbiology, blood banking, hematology, toxicology and forensics. Over 70 percent of information on a patient's chart comes from the clinical laboratory. Your laboratory work will use both manual and automated techniques, may be broad ranging or specialized, and opens you to career and employment options in laboratory management, quality assurance, medical sales and technical support, biomedical and pharmaceutical research and public health. Degrees offered: Bachelor of Science  |   Bachelor of Science - Online   |   Certificate

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapy is a rapidly growing profession. Having a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy provides a pathway for you to move into leadership roles in education, research and management. The degree prepares you for coveted opportunities in graduate school. ​When you graduate you will be in an excellent position to take advantage of hospital-instituted clinical ladders and have a competitive advantage when applying for leadership positions. The Bureau of Labor statistics has estimated a 28 percent growth rate for respiratory therapists in the next 10 years, faster than the average occupational outlook. Degree offered: Bachelor of Science - Online
