Experiential Learning/Clinical Eduction

Clinical Education

Athletic Training students are required to participate in a minimum of six semesters of clinical education experiences by participating in supervised clinical education settings. Students will have opportunities for clinical experiences associated with a variety of different populations including genders, varying levels of risk, protective equipment (to minimally include shoulder pads and helmet), and evidence based practice. These experiences address a continuum of care that will prepared students to function in a variety of settings and meet the domains of practice delineated for a certified athletic trainer in the profession.

Using an outcomes-based approach, students are instructed and evaluated by athletic training professionals in the following areas:

  • lower extremity experience
  • upper extremity experience
  • equipment intensive experience
  • general medical conditions: a segment of the clinical education experience must be directed towards a patient population having general medical ailments.
