Admissions

All of our undergraduate majors, graduate degree programs and certificate options are designed to prepare you for a career in the exciting, growing world of the health professions. The College of Allied Health Sciences is part of UC's Academic Health Center - one of the preeminent medical education centers in the United States.

Both graduate and undergraduate students in select counties in Indiana and Kentucky are eligible for the CAHS Metro Rate, a deeply-discounted tuition rate which will save these students over $13,500/year compared to full out-of-state tuition.

Admission of First-Year Students
The University of Cincinnati will expect that students who graduate from high school in 2008 or thereafter and who apply for admission to a baccalaureate college will have completed
the following high school units:

4 units of college-preparatory English
3 units of college-preparatory mathematics
3 units of science (biology, chemistry, etc.)
2 units of social science
2 units of foreign language
1 unit of fine arts
2 additional units of any of the above

First-year students are those who have not enrolled for college or university courses since graduating from high school.

Minimum requirements for admission consideration include graduation from an accredited secondary school, standing in the upper one-half of the graduating class and completion of the above listed.

The requirements of a high school diploma may be waived for students who have completed an unusual amount of college preparatory work in the first three years of high school study. Admission may also be granted to those who fail to meet one or more of the other criteria if, in the judgment of the Office of Student Affairs, there are factors in the applicant’s background that argue strongly for the student’s probable success in meeting the academic standards of the College of Allied Health Sciences. Some programs have specific college-preparatory unit requirements.

Admission by Transfer
A student wishing to transfer to the College of Allied Health Sciences from another accredited college or university should be guided by the following statement of policy:

1. Credits are accepted from any institution currently accredited by any of the six regional accrediting agencies. The Office of Student Affairs shall have discretionary authority to accept credits from other institutions in consultation with program directors or department chairpersons.

2. Only grades of C or better are accepted for transfer credit. Special exceptions may be granted in consultation with program directors or department chairpersons.

3. There is a 10-year expiration limit for acceptance of transfer credits. Exceptions can be made in consultation with the appropriate program directors or department chairpersons.

4. For all situations not covered by the above, the decision will be referred to the department involved when appropriate.

Transfer of Credits
At some point after the University of Cincinnati Transfer Office received the transcripts of a newly admitted student, a report will be prepared showing the new student’s applicable transfer credit. A student may meet with an advisor to determine exactly how his or her transfer credit applies toward degrees awarded by the College of Allied Health Sciences.

Acceptable Credit. The college accepts in transfer all credits for which a grade of C or better or a grade of “pass” was received. Semester credits will be multiplied by 1.5 to convert them into quarter credits. Other conversion credit (for instance, where course credit is expressed in course “units”) will be explained to us on the transcript itself. New students are admitted with standing as freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors based upon the number of credits accepted rather than by a determination of graduation date.
