Analytical Diagnostics

About the Program

The department of analytical diagnostics consists of four main programs: Advanced Medical Imaging Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Genetic Counseling and Tranfusion and Transplantation Sciences.

Advanced Medical Imaging Technology
Be responsible for creating high quality, diagnostic medical images - MRI scans, ultrasounds and nuclear medicine tests - in a variety of health care settings. Combine knowledge of physiology, pathology, and principles of the technology with the skills both to operate advanced equipment and to put patients at ease. And as today's health care managers seek multiskilled workers over highly specialized ones, gain the advantage by being qualified in two or more imaging technologies.

Bachelor of Science degree and Certificate offered.

Clinical Laboratory Science
Apply your interest in scientific activities and analyses to clinical laboratory science and impact people's lives and health by performing diagnostic procedures in clinical chemistry, microbiology, blood banking, hematology, toxicology and forensics. Over 70 percent of information on a patient's chart comes from the clinical laboratory. Your laboratory work will use both manual and automated techniques, may be broad ranging or specialized, and opens you to career and employment options in laboratory management, quality assurance, medical sales
and technical support, biomedical and pharmaceutical research and public health.

Bachelor of Science degree and Certificate offered.

Genetic Counseling
As a graduate of the Genetic Counseling Program, you will serve a unique role on the health team, helping families and individuals understand and cope with the genetic disorders or inherited conditions that affect their lives. You will translate complex technical and scientific information into practical terms that a family can understand and use, and you will provide supportive counseling. Expanding discoveries of the role that genetics plays in health and behavior will dramatically increase the opportunities in this profession.

Master of Science degree offered.

Transfusion and Transplantation Sciences
Meet today's challenges in Transfusion and Transplantation Sciences. Learn about cellular therapies, transplantation immunology, quality assurance, immunohematology, blood center and transfusion service operations, component therapy and research programs. Assume a position as a technical director, laboratory supervisor or manager, educator, quality assurance specialist or researcher in blood centers and transfusion centers across the country.
