MS in Transfusion and Transplantation Sciences
About the Program
Hoxworth Blood Center, through the College of Allied Health Sciences, University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, offers a 4 term/16 month graduate program leading to a Master of Science degree in Transfusion and Transplantation Sciences.
The program prepares laboratory professionals for positions of advancing responsibility in various healthcare-related organizations. These laboratory professionals receive the training and expertise to manage hospital laboratories, transfusion services, tissue typing labs, stem cell processing laboratories, and blood centers.
They are prepared to take responsibility for maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations such as those found in the Code of Federal Regulations including the Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and current Good Tissue Practices (cGTP).
Students select one of two tracks - Blood Transfusion Medicine (BTM) or Cellular Therapies (CT):
Blood Transfusion Medicine Track
Graduates of the BTM track assume responsible positions in blood centers and transfusion services across the country. These positions include technical directors; laboratory supervisors and managers; and positions in education, quality assurance, and research.
Cellular Therapies
Graduates of the CT track assume responsible leadership positions in cell therapy laboratories that provide laboratory support for hematopoietic stem cell transplant programs biotechnology production and process development laboratories.
