FAQ - Advanced Medical Imaging Technology

Frequently Asked Questions

Advanced Medical Imaging Technology

Is admission to the Advanced Medical Imaging Technology program competitive?

The Advanced Medical Imaging Technology program does not limit  the number of students accepted into the  Freshman or Sophomore years of the curriculum. However, the Junior and Senior years involve  clinical rotations  that are done in laboratory settings throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. Spaces in the clinical sites are limited, so there is a competitive secondary admissions process students must complete prior to being accepted into their Junior year. It is highly recommended that students maintain at least a 2.8 overall GPA and solid math and science scores in order to be competitive. Applications for the professional curriculum will be accepted each fall for the following academic year.  These applications may be obtained directly from the program.

What if I am not accepted into the Clinical Senior year after completing the prerequisite years?

If you are not accepted into the clinical year of the program, you are welcome to re-apply the following year. If, for instance, your grades were not competitive enough to gain a place in the clinical year, you may want to consider retaking some courses that may have contributed to a low GPA.

The first two years of the  Advanced Medical Imaging Technology program has a number of requirements that are similar to many other programs within the University.  Students  who are not accepted into the clinical portion of the program are encouraged to see an Academic Advisor to discover their best alternative.

How many students are accepted into the Clinical Junior and Senior years?

Because of space limitations in the clinical laboratory setting, approximately 20 new students are accepted into the professional curriculum (the Junior and Senior years).

Where would I work as an Advanced Medical Imaging Technologist?

Advanced Medical Imaging Technology Program graduates are in demand by various medical imaging laboratories in hospitals, medical centers, outpatient clinics and research facilities. Advancement in this field may involve promotion to supervisory and administrative positions, equipment and pharmaceutical sales, product support and teaching.

Successful graduates are eligible for national certification by the appropriate national certification board registries in the available imaging modalities.

What is the starting salary for Advanced Medical Imaging Technologists?

Starting salaries for Advanced Medical Imaging  Technologists range from $50,000 to $60,000 a year.
