Frequently Asked QuestionsClinical Laboratory ScienceIs the Clinical Laboratory Science program competitive?The Clinical Laboratory Science program does not have a maximum number of students that they can accept to pursue the Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior year curriculum. However, spaces are limited for the Senior clinical year, so there is a competition process to complete prior to being accepted into the Senior year. It is recommended that students maintain at least a 2.8 GPA to be competitive for the Senior year. As part of the competition process, students will also go through an interview as part of the consideration. Can I do the Senior clinical year as a co-op year? Yes. The Senior year can be done on a cooperative education basis in which you will take classes then work in the field of Clinical Laboratory Science on alternating quarters. By choosing the co-op option program, you will gain experience in the field while you study. You will spread the Senior year coursework over two years to achieve the credits required to graduate. What is the starting salary in the field of Clinical Laboratory Science? Salaries for Medical Technologists vary, depending upon the type of position that a graduate might seek. Generally, entry level salaries range from $32,000 to $40,000. What is the current job market for Clinical Laboratory Scientists? The job market is extremely strong, both regionally and nationally. Graduates typically have many opportunities from which to choose. Where do the Clinical Experiences take place? The Clinical Experiences are done in clinical hospital laboratories. The Clinical Laboratory Science Program is affiliated with many hospital laboratories in the Cincinnati area.
