Distance Learning
You can juggle your work responsibilities and family life, and go back to school all at the same time. A typical week in a student's life requires efficiency and organization, but he or she has the flexibility to choose when to study and how best to approach the program's objectives. This is the essence of distance learning.
The College of Allied Health Sciences offers four innovative, online distance learning programs. These programs are fully accredited, have innovative curriculum taught by experienced faculty with competitive tuition.
Distance Learning Programs:
Medical Laboratory Sciences
This distance learning program offers working professional clinical laboratory technicians and medical laboratory technicians opportunities to complete their bachelor of science in laboratory science with minimal loss of time and credit. This degree prepares them with the knowledge and skills needed for continued professional growth in their field. Students’ pass rates on the national certification examination routinely exceed the national pass rate by 10% or higher.
Health Information Management
The Health Information Management program prepares working Registered Health Information Technicians (RHITs) to become Registered Health Information Administrators (RHIAs). One hundred percent (100%) of the HIM graduates who have sat for the RHIA certification exam have passed, compared to a national average pass rate of 64 percent.
Health Administration
The mission of the University of Cincinnati Professional MHA program is to employ a distance-learning approach to provide students who might not have access to traditional education routes with a high quality individualized curriculum in health care administration and management which will prepare them to assume leadership roles within health care teams, institutions and systems.
This program will primarily employ a distance-learning, asynchronous approach but an in-person residency is required. We will utilize a best practices approach drawing upon perspectives in leadership, finance, quality improvement, epidemiology, health economics and health policy to provide a broad-based educational experience where the outcomes benefit the student’s organization and the community it serves.
Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory therapy is a rapidly growing profession. Having a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy provides a pathway for students to move into leadership roles in education, research and management. The degree prepares students for coveted opportunities in graduate school. Graduates will be in an excellent position to take advantage of hospital-instituted clinical ladders and have a competitive advantage when applying for leadership positions. The Bureau of Labor statistics has estimated a 28 percent growth rate for respiratory therapists in the next 10 years, faster than the average occupational outlook.
