CAHS Celebrates the Past While Looking to the Future

Published: 4/25/2018

The University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) celebrated its 20th anniversary on Thursday, April 19 with a banquet at the Kingsgate Marriott Conference Center. During the banquet, CAHS honored its "20 in 20” award winners and reflected on the impact of the college on the university and surrounding community.

"When diverse, motivated people come together, the possibilities are endless,” said UC President Neville Pinto, PhD, one of the guest speakers at the banquet. "With your help, we will create a new chapter for academic excellence where learning is not only a product of education but also a platform for success. We will break the boundaries on innovation to realize the full potential of our research, experiential learning, co-ops and classroom experiences.”

"The College of Allied Health Sciences has made a tremendous impact on not only UC Health, but on our region’s medical community overall,” said Richard Lofgren, MD, president and CEO of UC Health. "More than half of the region’s medical professionals throughout the region are alums of the college.”

The "20 in 20” award winners were individually introduced by Kristi Nelson, PhD, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost for UC.

"While we are celebrating our 20th anniversary this evening, there is so much more on the horizon,” said Tina Whalen, EdD, dean of CAHS. "The next chapter for our college begins in the Health Sciences Building. I’m certain the college will sustain our academic excellence through innovative and engaging learning experiences, and contribute to the larger innovation agenda through our research and scholarly works to advance the fields of allied health sciences.”

Earlier in the day, Whalen and other CAHS leaders signed a banner at the construction site of the Health Sciences Building. After being signed, the banner was hoisted to the top of the building, which will open in time for the start of fall semester 2019.

The honorees were nominated by Whalen, the departments within CAHS, and the allied health professional and CAHS alumni communities. Click here for more information about the college’s 20th anniversary and the "20 in 20” honorees.
