Program Length

The SPD Certificate program requires completion of a 2 credit hour Supervised Practice Preparation course during spring semester followed by 32 semester credit hours of supervised practice experience. It isusually completed within a 12 month time span, as a 1 semester summer course of 4 credit hours (equivalent to 5 full-time weeks) and as 2 full-time semester courses, 1 each in fall and spring.

Program Costs

If you are enrolled in the SPD Certificate program you are charged undergraduate tuition and fees. Should Ohio residents choose the distance supervised practice option, they will still be charged Ohio rates. Some non-Ohio residents may qualify for reciprocity or metropolitan tuition rates based on the program in which they are enrolled.

The costs for the SPD Certificate program are the same as those for the CPD Supervised Practice Experience. Specific information about tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing and meals for the SPD Certificate program is included on pages 2 & 3 of the Estimated Costs CP 2015-16. If you are student enrolled in the SPD Certificate program and are granted approved medical or personal leave, you may incur additional charges for tuition and fees should you not complete the program within the time period allotted to change your course grade from an "incomplete."

Additional information on tuition and fees can be found at http://www.uc.edu/bursar/fees/2015-2016.html.Additional information on costs of room and board options can be found athttp://www.uc.edu/uchousing/rates/15-16_rates.html.

Financial aid is available if you are enrolled in the SPD Certificate program. Median loan debt from federal loans and/or private loans incurred by students who completed the SPD Certificate in 2015 was not disclosed because there were less than 10 certificate students in the program.

Job Placement

Please note that the SPD Certificate program completers must first pass the RD examination before accepting a job as a RDN/RD.

Job placement rate information is reported to the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), which is the accrediting agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

PLEASE NOTE: The Commission on Dietetic Registration has indicated that in 2024 a master's degree will be required before a graduate can write the Registered Dietitian Exam. All those holding the RDN/RD credential before 2024 will not be required to earn a master's degree in order to keep that credential.
