Student Scholarships

Scholarships for undergraduate students


Outstanding Service Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes one outstanding undergraduate nutrition student who has provided exemplary volunteer service in any setting. Dependent on available funds and applications, one award per year (maximum of $2000) will be awarded to one undergraduate student in his/her junior or senior year.  Students must be enrolled in the program during the Fall Semester to qualify for this award. The scholarship funds will be deposited into the student’s account. If they do not have a balance on the account, then the student will receive a check at the end of the semester.

Criteria

  • Enrolled in the Dietetics or Food and Nutrition Major at UC
  • Academic Standing (per transcript)
  • Junior or senior
  • Overall Grade Point Average, Minimum of 3.2
  • Volunteer Experience
    • Collegiate service > 60 hours prior to application
    • Unpaid
    • Voluntary, i.e., not required for a class
  • Excellent Reflection (evaluated with a rubric)
    • clarity regarding a description of the experience(s)
    • relevance to achievement of a career goal
    • analysis of how the experience contributed to student growth and community benefit
    • interconnections between the service experience and previous other personal, work, and/or academic learnings
    • self-reflection of how the experience changed the student’s thinking

This award recognizes one exemplary undergraduate student for their (a) academic achievement, (b) critical thinking skills, (c) initiative and motivation, (d) professionalism, and (e) potential for leadership/success in the field of food and nutrition.  Dependent on available funds and applications, one award per year (maximum of $2000) will be awarded to one undergraduate student in his/her junior or senior year.  Students must be enrolled in the program during the Fall Semester to qualify for this award. The scholarship funds will be deposited into the student’s account. If they do not have a balance on the account, then the student will receive a check at the end of the semester.

  • Academic achievement
  • Undergraduate student cumulative GPA ≥3.5 and no grade lower than a B in any course
  • Excellence in
    • Written communication skills
    • Critical thinking skills (analytical skills/problem solving; conceptual skills)
    • Initiative and motivation
    • Professionalism
  • Potential for leadership/success in the field of food and nutrition

Graduate Assistantships


Graduate Assistant Scholarships - (UGS)

A graduate student who will receive full tuition and a stipend for fall and spring semesters, will work 20 hours a week as a GA or as a TA doing research or teaching for a graduate faculty. Must be someone who meets the criteria and was a good student in their Undergraduate degree. 

The criteria is a first year graduate student who is exceptional and must meet the high end of the requirements to get into the program. Our requirements include: 3.0 GPA or higher, 300 GRE,  three letters of recommendations.  Also, a student who has research and/or teaching experience.

 

Graduate Incentive Scholarships - (UGI)

A graduate student who will receive a portion of their tuition towards the academic year. 

The criteria is a graduate student who is showing progress to their degree and is a good student. The amount can fluctuate depending on the student.
