Current Students: FAQsWhen can I see an Advisor? The Office of Student Affairs is open Mondays through Fridays, from
8:00am to 5:00pm. As advisors are often in previously scheduled meetings
or appointments, students are strongly encouraged to make an appointment before coming in. How often should I see an advisor?Freshmen are required to see an advisor each quarter before registration. Students on
probation or suspension are also required to see an advisor before
registration. Upperclassmen in good academic standing are encouraged to see an advisor
at least once a year in order to stay current on potential curricular changes. Students
approaching graduation should see an advisor the first quarter of their senior year
to make sure they have fulfilled all requirements and to complete graduation paperwork. How do I know when to register for classes for the next term? All university calendars can be found at the
OneStop website. How Do I find out what classes are offered?A complete list of course offerings can be found on the OneStop website. How can I access my email on campus? All students in the CAHS are provided with an email account and logon
information to access the computers in the computer labs on East Campus.
Students should check their Bearcat Online (BOL) email regularly for
announcements from the Student Affairs office. Student bills, grades,
and official correspondence are also sent to a students' BOL account. How do I drop or add a class, change my major, or withdraw from school?Classes may be added or dropped via the OneStop website. To change your major to another program within CAHS, contact an advisor. To change your major to another college, you will need to complete a Change of College form, available outside the advising offices. Before doing any of the above, contact an advisor to determine
any impact on your academic program. How do I get into a closed class?First, keep trying through the regular (official) registration channels. Maybe people drop classes in the first week. Next, send the professor or instructor a note in advance outlining your situation and why you want/need the class. Be succinct and polite. Go to the first class meeting; talk to the instructor in person (preferably after the class) about sitting in the class until a space opens. Come to each class session the first week. During that week, participate, ask questions, do the assignments... in short, be a good student. Professors may let you in even if the class is full. You will need a professor's signature on an add slip to get into a closed class. Once you have the professor's signature, go to the advising office of the college offering the class (for instance, Chemistry is in the College of Arts & Sciences) and get a signature there. Take the add slip to the OneStop center in University Pavilion and you will be added to the course. |
