About Katie

Katie Mosure is a two-time University of Cincinnati grad with an education and school counseling background. Her focus on access and support stems from her personal experience as a first-generation college student from an Appalachian county navigating the collegiate atmosphere, nuances, jargon, and, at times, idiosyncrasies. She would not be where she is today without the mentorship and support she received as a UC student, and she strives to pass that gift on to her students.

Katie's Advising Philosopy

Katie believes that higher education should be accessible to all students and that student success is possible through student-centered academic discovery, curated support networks, and meaningful personal connections. Academic advisors are integral to this success and connection for students. She grounds her advising preparation, classroom models, and professional development plan with an eye for breaking down systems into actionable, digestible steps while focusing on individual student strengths and goals. Her advising philosophy hinges on four principles: the ecological counseling model, strengths-based advising, appreciative inquiry, and critically reflective teaching techniques.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time

In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family: three boys, two dogs, and her husband (whom she met at UC!). They love playing together in the backyard, building blocks, doing science experiments, and watching movies. She also loves true crime, podcasts, stand-up comedy, and interior design.

What’s a quote that has influenced or reflects how you define success? Who’s it attributed to? What does it mean to you?

Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen.” – Conan O’Brien.

This quote translates to so many aspects of life – personal and professional. Katie tries to live by this every day and instills the idea of “work hard, be kind” to her students.

What's your favorite season and why?

Katie’s favorite season is summer- she was born in the summer and loves the warm weather, sunshine, time outside in nature, and relaxing by the water in a sundress with a cold drink

What's your favorite holiday?

Katie’s favorite holiday is Valentine’s Day. It is cheesy, but she loves the idea of a holiday completely dedicated to letting people know how much they are loved and appreciated. It also brings some color and fun into an otherwise pretty drab month in Ohio!
