Medical Laboratory Science Direct Admission

A Direct Admissions program is available for students in the Medical Laboratory Science - Standard and Pre-Medicine tracks. This program gives you early admission into your clinical year.

The campus-based bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) at the University of Cincinnati includes courses in science foundations and content specific to the medical laboratory. The curricular plan concludes with a 12-month clinical year that prepares you for the exciting and ever-changing world of the clinical lab.

Admission to the clinical year is competitive. Highly qualified candidates may be offered direct admission to the clinical year at the same time they receive first-year admission to the university. As long as you maintain the minimum qualifications throughout your education, you will automatically be given admission to the clinical year.

If you do not qualify for direct admission, you can still gain entry into the clinical year by participating in a secondary application process during your junior year.

UC's Direct Admissions Medical Laboratory program is one of few in the country that allows you to save your spot for your clinical year upon entering the program.

You will only need to apply the Medical Laboratory Science standard program or the Medical Laboratory Science pre-med program as a first-year student. If you qualify, the program will send you your acceptance before the start of the school year.

At the end of your junior year, you will need to meet the following minimum requirements:
  • University cumulative GPA of 2.8
  • Math/Science GPA of 2.8
  • Passed all program-required courses with a grade of “C-” or above;
  • Passed any MLSC prefix-designated courses with a grade of “C” or above.

You can find additional information about the clinical year on the Clinical Year Admissions page.
