Admissions Requirements
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Completion of prerequisite coursework by the start of the MSAT program (see chart below) with a grade of C or higher (C- is not accepted)
- Completion of a minimum of 50 documented hours of pre-professional supervised observation with an athletic trainer in a traditional setting or other related health care setting at the time of application submission.
- Two (2) references (1 from an athletic trainer who supervised your pre-professional observation and 1 from a faculty member who can speak to your ability to succeed in graduate level studies).
- Extended response essay describing professionalism and why you chose AT as your professional pathway as well as the University of Cincinnati's program.
Prerequisite Coursework
Applicants must demonstrate a plan to complete outstanding pre-reqs by the scheduled MSAT program start date. For each of the prerequisites below, we have indicated the University of Cincinnati courses that will fulfill the requirements for our program.

Application Review
Reviewed items on admissions applications are:
- Cumulative GPA (required minimum 3.0)
- Pre-requisite course GPA (preferred GPA 3.0)
- Letters of recommendation (2 letters, 1 from an athletic trainer, 1 from a faculty member)
- Personal statement and extended response questions
- Pre-professional observation or volunteer hours
- Applicants can receive bonus points during the application review if:
- they hold a valid health care license or a valid health or fitness certification
- they exceed the pre-requisite science course requirements or who have undergraduate course work related to athletic training
- they are a graduate of UC or students from institutions that have an affiliation agreement with the UC MSAT program
Applicants who have completed all or part of a graduate health care program at another institution may be able to transfer equivalent courses into the MSAT program and earn advance standing for those courses. These opportunities are evaluated on an individual basis.
