Admissions Requirements

Applicants interested in the Graduate Certificate in Human Nutrition program must meet the following admissions requirements:
 
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 at the undergraduate level based on a 4.0 scale
  • Prerequisites: 
    • Introductory nutrition (UC equivalent NUTR 1030 - Personal Nutrition)
    • A year of chemistry with lab (UC equivalent CHEM 1030, CHEM 1030L & CHEM1031, CHEM1031L - GOBCHEM I & II and GOBCHEM Lab I & II)
    • A year of biochemistry (UC equivalent CHEM2030 & CHEM2031 - Survey of Biochemistry I & II) OR 1 semester of biochemistry AND 1 semester of organic chemistry or genetics
    • A year of anatomy & physiology (UC equivalent BIOL2001C & BIOL2002C - Anatomy & Physiology I & II)
  • English proficiency is required of all applicants whose native language is not English.  Most students fulfill the English requirement by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Testing System (IELTS), or the PEARSON Test of English (PTE). For IELTS, an overall band score of 6.5 is sufficient for graduate admission. For PEARSON, a score of 47 is sufficient. TOEFL requirements vary based on the type of TOEFL test taken, and scores are valid for up to two years. The minimum university requirement is:
    • 520 (paper-based test), or
    • 190 (computer-based test), or
    • 80 (internet-based test)

Application Process

Applications for the Graduate Certificate in Human Nutrition are due August 1 for fall semester admission and November 1 for spring semester admission.

Please follow these guidelines in preparing your application.

Submit Electronically:

The graduate application may be found on the UC Graduate School website.

  • Click on APPLY TO UC and create an account to start a new application.
  • Under the program tab search for Human Nutrition-Online, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate.
  • You will have the option to post a video essay, recommendations, and GRE test scores however these are not required for your application.
  • Application fees may be paid by credit card (Visa, Discover, Master Card) or electronic check. This method is preferred and will speed processing of your application. Applications will not be processed until payment is received.
  • Upload your unofficial transcript. An official transcript will only need to be submitted after you have been accepted and confirmed as a student.
