University Partnership Program

University Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program

The University Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program is designed to prepare our social work students to become child welfare leaders, policy makers, managers and direct service practioners who are capable of critical thinking and promoting best practices and highest-quality service to children, families, and communities.

The program provides coordinated, integrated, and high quality social work education and training, from specialized coursework to field practicums and individualized mentoring. Students will also receive early exposure and networking in the field of child welfare and a “fast-track” to full-time employment opportunities in child welfare upon graduation.

Participants of the program are chosen annually through a competitive application process, BSW and MSW students are encouraged to apply. Upon completion of your social work degree, a commitment to work for at least one year in an Ohio public children service agency and successful hiring at an Ohio public children services agency, the University Partnership Program will reward graduate with an employment incentive up to $10,000.

Fall Semester: 

  • SW Child Welfare I, 3 credit hours
  • SW Field Seminar for UPP, one credit hour
  • Field placemat in a public children services agency in Ohio

Spring Semester:

  • SW Child Welfare II, 3 credit hours
  • SW Field Seminar for UPP, one credit hour
  • Field placemat in a public children services agency in Ohio

Emily Grace is the University Partnership Program (UPP) coordinator at the School of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati.  She has ten years of experience working in the child welfare field; with a passion for prevention services and keeping children safely in their homes of origin. Emily focuses her work increasing social work students in the field of child welfare.
