Nuclear Medicine Technology Certificate
Admission Requirements
The AMIT program offers 2 separate professional certificates: one in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and the other in Nuclear Medicine Technology. Through a combination of classroom and clinical instruction, certificate students will be taught the specific skills needed for entry-level positions in their chosen modality. Certificate students participate in coursework alongside baccalaureate students. Each individual certificate is 12 full, consecutive months. Certificate students must apply by the same competitive admissions pathway as baccalaureate students and start in fall semester; completing the certificate at the end of the following summer semester.
There are two pathways to qualify for the certificate program:
- Must have an associate's degree, baccalaureate preferred
- Must have 1 year of full-time clinical experience
- One semester of written communication
- One semester of college-level chemistry with lab
- One semester of college-level physics with lab (x-ray physics accepted)
- One semester of college-level mathematics of algebra or higher
- Two semesters of college-level anatomy and physiology with lab
** All healthcare related courses will be assessed individually by program faculty to evaluate prerequisite credit completion.
- Baccalaureate degree, science focus preferred
- One semester of written communication
- One semester of college-level chemistry with lab
- One college mathematics of algebra or higher
- One semester of pathophysiology
- Two semesters of college-level anatomy and physiology with lab.
- Two semesters of college-level physics with lab
** All courses will be assessed individually by program faculty to evaluate prerequisite credit completion.
All certificate students will submit transcripts directly to the program ahead of their application for a programmatic review. All courses required for this program must be completed with a C or better. International student must have their transcripts evaluated for American equivalency through organizations such as WES or ICD.
AMIT Certificate students are eligible to apply for federal financial aid through the process of FAFSA. Most students will be required to complete additional documentation regarding the course requirements for the certificate through an appeals process. Please contact the UC Enrollment Service Office (enrollmentservices@ucmail.uc.edu) with financial aid questions. AMIT International Certificate students are encouraged to contact the UC International Services Office (internationl.services@uc.edu_) for advising related to your international questions. Please note that if you did not complete a degree program in the USA, you may be required to complete English fluency testing.

Certificate Information
Due to the standards set forth by national accrediting agencies, professional curriculum students attend classes for 12 consecutive months (i.e., fall, spring, and summer semesters). Upon acceptance into the professional curriculum certificate students will study one of the following imaging modalities. Certificate students may also choose to study the second modality for an additional 12 month curriculum certificate if they so choose.
- Nuclear medicine technology is a branch of medicine that deals with the use of radioactive substances in research, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body. These techniques are used to diagnosis disease and analyze human anatomy.
If accepted, you must be a Univeristy of Cincinnati student majoring in Advanced Medical Imaging Technology in the College of Allied Health Sciences before registering for classes.
Although the limiting factor is usually the availability of clinical sites, program faculty are under no obligation to accept a student into the professional curriculum simply because availabilities exist. The number of clinical sites available from one year to the next is variable. Program officials will not know the number of available sites until summer semester.
Secondary Admissions Application Criteria
You must apply for the professional education curriculum during fall semester of the year prior to your anticipated start date. You are not required to complete prerequisite work before applying to the professional education curriculum, but all prerequisite work must be completed before beginning the professional education curriculum.
Students wishing to apply must have a 3.0 overall GPA or higher, along with a Math and Science GPA of 3.0. Additionally, no grades below C in a math or science course are accepted.
