If you would like to be considered for scholarships/assistantships, it is highly encouraged that you submit your application before the March 1st deadline.  Please note that all assistantships and most scholarships are awarded to fall admits.

International Student Application Deadline: September 1st

There are usually only a limited number of openings for students for the spring. Before filling out the application we encourage you to contact the Graduate Program Director about admission.

• The graduate application to the MS in Nutrition Sciences program may be found on the UC Graduate School website.
• Application fees may be paid by credit card (Visa, Discover, Master Card) or electronic check. This method is preferred and will speed processing of your application. Applications will not be processed until payment is received.
• Upload your resume which should include relevant academic and professional data. Resume should include: 
  • Name, address, phone, birth date, citizenship
  • colleges attended with degrees and dates
  • professional experience, employment history 
  • names of references that will be sending letters
• Upload your statement of academic and professional goals. This statement will be used as one of the criteria for evaluating your application. This statement should include:
  • What are your career goals and interests?
  • What experience do you have in the nutrition discipline?
  • What experience do you have in research or teaching?
  • How are you at working independently?
  • Do you have any notable leadership skills?
  • State any significant writing pieces (i.e. honors thesis, project, University newspaper)
  • Why do you want to come to UC?
  • What type of nutrition research do you want to do?
  • Please specify if you are interested in a graduate research or teaching assistantship and include why you should be considered.  
• Upload your unofficial transcript. An official transcript will only need to be submitted after you have been accepted and confirmed as a student.
• GRE test scores are optional and can be submitted with your application.
• Provide three current letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic and professional ability (submitted electronically by recommenders, preferable on letterhead). One letter should be from an academic source; one should be from an employer or other person who can comment regarding on-the-job (professional) performance; and the third may be from either an academic or professional source.

Students interested in a graduate research or teaching assistantship scholarship award:

• An interview with the Nutrition Admission Committee will be required for qualified candidates wanting to be considered for a graduate research or teaching assistantship award.  Please make sure you have indicated your interest in your personal statement and why you should be considered.  

• International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency.  Most applicants fulfill the English requirement by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Testing System (IELTS), or the PEARSON Test of English (PTE). For IELTS, an overall band score of 6.5 is sufficient for graduate admission. For PEARSON, a score of 47 is sufficient. TOEFL requirements vary based on the type of TOEFL test taken, and scores are valid for up to two years. The minimum university requirement is:
  • 520 (paper-based test), or
    
  • 190 (computer-based test), or
  • 80 (internet-based test)
  • Please refer to the Graduate School webpage on English Proficiency for requirements.
• Applicants with a baccalaureate or master's degree from an accredited university in the United States, Canada, England, Australia, or other English-speaking country are exempt from the English proficiency requirement. A certified copy of the degree or transcript is required for such an exemption. In addition, applicants from select English-speaking countries are exempt from the English proficiency requirement upon submission of a request for a waiver of the TOEFL test by the admitting program.
• International applicants need to provide a transcript evaluation with a GPA conversion to a 4.0 scale.  Any credit evaluators that are members of National Association of Credit Evaluators can be used. SpanTran is one of the lowest cost options.  Applications without a transcript evaluation will not be considered for admission.
