Scholarships
The University of Cincinnati Speech-Language Pathology program offers a variety of scholarships that are awarded to students based on the quality of their academic record and performance in the program each year. There is not a separate application process for these scholarships; they are awarded automatically based on your admissions application.
The mission of the Albert C. Yates Fellowship Program at the University of Cincinnati is to enrich the educational environment for all graduate students by supporting the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority groups who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents with high potential for academic success to graduate programs at the University of Cincinnati.
This award requires program nomination; students cannot directly apply.
Established February 2016 by the Ferrier's in honor of their daughter, Christina, who died suddenly in November 2015 while a graduate student in speech language pathology. Provided scholarship(s) shall be awarded to graduate students enrolled in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in speech language pathology with preference given to students enrolled in the online program. Preference will be given to students who are actively engaged in meaningful volunteer activity within their community, exhibit a strong work ethic, and are committed to excellence in the pursuit of their career in speech-language pathology. Students who have applied and been accepted to the Master of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders will be notified if they are a recipient of this scholarship.
Established by Timothy B. and Terri A. Hollenkamp, a speech-language pathology alumna and owner of REHAB on the Run and Rehab Resources, as well as Scott and Tina Whalen with matching funds from the University of Cincinnati Health. Recipient(s) must be enrolled in the College of Allied Health Sciences, and have a diverse background, based upon factors including, but not limited to, socio-economic status (family income, wealth, etc.), parental education, cultural awareness, and history of overcoming adversity. Recipient(s) must have and maintain at least a 3.2 GPA. Preference shall be given to a first-generation student. Scholarship is awarded based on program director nomination of eligible students.
Established in 2018 by the Kelchner family to find and support future leaders in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) with matching funds from UC Health. This fund reflects their value of strong, principled leadership regardless of the organization. Lisa Kelchner, PhD, has served as a CSD faculty member as well as interim department chair. Recipient(s) must be enrolled in a CSD graduate program focusing on clinical speech-language pathology (e.g. medical or educational focus) within the college. Recipient(s) must have a diverse background, based upon factors, including, but not limited to, socio-economic status (family income, wealth, etc.), parental education, cultural awareness, and history of overcoming adversity. Faculty will nominate rising 2nd year MA SLP students who embody these traits. Nominees will submit a 500 word essay that includes short description of explaining their unique background and how it contributes to their vision of how, as a speech language pathologist, they will serve individuals who need our specialized care.
Established to provide scholarships for University of Cincinnati Speech Language Hearing Sciences undergraduate students that matriculate into the Master of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders (speech-language pathology) program. Eligible students who have applied and been accepted into the Master of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders program will be notified if they are a recipient of this scholarship.
The Graduate Incentive Award is funded by the Graduate School. The appointing program sends scholarship offers to students who apply to the program, including information about the amount and duration of the award and the terms of the offer. Students must maintain all of the required eligibility requirements in their offer letter to maintain their tuition scholarship.

Greg Jacoby graduated from the UC SLP MA Graduate program in the early 2000’s. He returned to Michigan to work for Detroit Public Schools as a speech therapist for many years. He soon became the Supervisor of Communication Disorders for Detroit Public Schools. Greg continually worked on improving his professional and personal self, gaining extra certifications, and always reading. This scholarship was named after him for a speech-language pathology graduate SLP student.
Julia Glore was a 2nd year MA Graduate Student in speech-language pathology in the 1990s. Her undergraduate degree was in Social Work. Julia was an avid jogger and she was jogging when a car hit her and she passed away. Her family endowed this scholarship to recognize a graduating non-traditional 2nd year MA SLP Graduate student in the on-campus program.
Established in 2008 by Katie’s family and friends in her memory after a tragic car accident. Katie was an alumna who earned a Bachelor of Science & Master of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders (speech-language pathology). She was a single mom who exemplified determination and resilience in her pursuit of an education. This award continues her spirit in support of others. Provides tuition assistance to students in the College of Allied Health Sciences’ Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders. It is the donor’s preference that the scholarship be awarded each year to a single parent. If there are no single parent candidates then the department may choose a worthy candidate. Available funds dependent on annual contributions. Students who have applied and been accepted into the Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders program will be notified if they are a recipient of this scholarship.
Preparing Early Intervention Providers for the Opioid Epidemic (PEPOpE) is an interdisciplinary training program for master’s level students in the College of Allied Health at the University of Cincinnati studying occupational therapy (OT), social work (SW), and speech-language pathology (SLP). The program will prepare 42 students to be highly effective and highly qualified allied health professionals prepared to meet the needs of children with intra-uterine opioid exposure (IOE) and their families. Students earn a stipend for participation of the program.

Established in 2016 by UC Health. Recipient(s) must be enrolled in the College of Allied Health Sciences, entering their professional program. Eligible programs are: Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) (seniors), Dietetics Coordinated Program (juniors), Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Advanced Medical Imaging Technology (AMIT) (juniors), Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Master of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders, Audiology, Master of Social Work (MSW). Recipient(s) must have a diverse background, hold a 3.2 GPA or better and must have desire to practice in a hospital setting. Available funds dependent on annual contributions. Scholarship is awarded based on program director nomination of eligible students.
Provides emergency funds for currently enrolled CAHS students who are in good standing and experiencing financial need. Recipient(s) can be undergraduate or graduate students. Submit online Emergency Scholarship Application.

NBASLH Awards Award Application Online Submission Form Application Deadline is January 11, 2023 The following awards are presented at the annual NBASLH Convention. NBASLH Communication Excellence Award. The NBASLH Communication Excellence Award was created as a vehicle for recognizing an individual in the local community of the current convention city who has had or currently has a communication impairment; and yet has made worthy contributions to humankind, or has otherwise reached impressive goals of personal achievement in spite of his/her communication impairment. Self-nominations for awards are permitted.

Dr. Henry A. Moses Scholarship for Medical Speech-Language Pathology. This scholarship is open to applicants pursuing a Masters or PhD degree in speech language pathology in a program accredited by ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation, who have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in medical speech-language pathology.
