This accelerated pathway is designed for high-achieving students who are committed to making a difference in their communities and beyond.
Program Eligibility
To be eligible for the 4+1 pathway, students must meet the following criteria:
- Admitted to the University of Cincinnati Bachelor of Social Work program: You must first be an admitted student in the program in order to be reviewed.
- High School GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.25.
- College GPA: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and achieve a B or higher in all social work coursework throughout your undergraduate program.

Program Structure
The 4+1 BSW to MSW program is structured to provide an efficient and comprehensive education in social work. Here’s how it works:
1. Years 1-4: Complete your undergraduate coursework to earn a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). This phase includes foundational courses, fieldwork, and hands-on experiences to prepare you for advanced studies.
2. Year 5: Transition seamlessly into the accelerated MSW program. This intensive year focuses on advanced social work theories, practices, and specialized fields, culminating in the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
Benefits of the 4+1 Pathway
Save Time and Money
- Accelerated Timeline: Complete your BSW and MSW in just five years, compared to the traditional six or more years. This means you enter the workforce with advanced qualifications sooner.
- Cost Efficiency: By reducing the time spent in school, you save on tuition and other associated costs, making your education more affordable.
- Graduate Application Fee Waived: 4+1 students will also have their graduate school application fee waived once they enter the graduate portion of their curriculum.
Career Advancement
- Higher Earning Potential: An MSW typically leads to higher-paying job opportunities compared to a BSW alone. Advanced positions in social work, management, and specialized fields often require a master’s degree.
- Expanded Job Opportunities: With an MSW, you become eligible for a wider range of career paths, including clinical social work, policy analysis, program administration, and more.
In-Depth Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced Training: The MSW program provides deeper insights into social work practices, research methods, and specialized areas such as mental health, child welfare, and community organization.
- Leadership Preparation: Develop the skills needed for leadership roles in various social work settings, including health care, government agencies, non-profits, and private practice.Replace with your text
